A Joyful Passover, A Time to Connect

Cleveland, Ohio (DATE) – Amidst tough economic times, people are finding ways to focus on what’s most important to them and share warm messages. The celebration of Passover, observed from sunset on April 8 to nightfall on April 16, provides an ideal opportunity for the Jewish community to celebrate and connect. According to American Greetings (NYSE: AM), this year people will be sending hopeful messages and wishing friends and family a joyous and meaningful Passover.

The holiday marks the liberation of the Jews from slavery in Egypt and the founding of the Jewish nation. Two ceremonial dinners, called Seders, incorporate special foods such as bitter herbs, saltwater, and unleavened bread or matzoh to represent various aspects of the Jewish people and the adversity they have faced. There is a sense of pride in the traditions of the culture and a feeling of rebirth and renewal in this spring festival.

“Now, probably more than ever, Jews will spend Passover connecting with friends and family to share the joy and important messages of the holiday,” said Pam Fink, senior editor of the L’Chayim To Life! line at American Greetings. “Whether you want to express feelings of love, say hello, or just share a good laugh with someone, Passover is a great time to reach out and let people know you’re thinking about them.”

Passover greeting cards from American Greetings range in style from traditional iconography of the holiday, such as wine and matzoh, to taking a humorous look at some of the practices of the eight-day event. From warm, joyful, and hopeful sentiments to smile-bringing cartoons, the cards reflect the uniqueness of the Passover celebration.

The newest offerings for Passover can be found at participating drug chains, grocery stores and super centers nationwide, as well as in American Greetings and Carlton Cards retail stores. Visit corporate.americangreetings.com for store locations.
