Ines Barranca
Editorial Manager
Ines Barranca, Editorial Manager of the Spanish card department at American Greetings, has been a part of the dedicated team that creates Mother’s Day cards for Hispanic mothers for the last 30 years. Her ability to come up with the perfect sentiments for this important occasion year after year not only stems from her experience of working to craft the heartfelt cards, but also the life she has lived.
Barranca utilizes her own life and memories, and the memories of her team, all of whom are of Hispanic descent, to create a line of cards for Hispanic mothers that is authentic in its expression of love and appreciation. As both a Hispanic daughter and mother, Barranca is able to reflect on both sides of the relationship to come up with the perfect words every child wants to share and every mother wants to hear.
This year, Barranca’s team is offering more than 200 designs in the La Rosa collection for Mother’s Day, which feature a wide range of fresh sentiments and designs. However even with these enhancements and specialization, all of the cards are still rooted in the key messages of faith, culture and family.
Barranca noted that for Hispanics, the holiday is not only about thanking mom for everything she does for us, but also about expressing appreciation for all that she has taught us.
“The mother in the Hispanic culture is the heart of the family and also the one who teaches the children about their faith, and the importance of their culture,” Barranca said. “That is why our cards reflect the language, traditions and faith that Hispanic mothers stress. The cards communicate love and appreciation, but also recognition for how important these lessons were and continue to be.”
