Cleveland, Ohio (October 2007) – Boss’s Day will be commemorated this year on Tuesday, Oct. 16, but the entertainment world has been celebrating the boss for years.
Workplaces have always been the perfect setting for television comedies and dramas, and the boss has always been a key character. Recently however, the role has become more central, well rounded and in some instances, even likeable.
In celebration of Boss’s Day, we take a look at some of the most notable bosses in television. Do any of these iconic examples remind you of your manager? We hope not…
- Mr. Burns (The Simpson’s) A cunning leader who isn’t afraid to “release the hounds” when the situation calls for it, or even when it just would make him smile.
- Donald Trump as The Donald (The Apprentice) Sure he’s a little quick to pull the trigger on letting an employee go, but he sure is a great model for any of his workers to live up to (the man does own a casino).
- James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano (TheSopranos) A strong and forthright man who gave new definition to the term boss. Soprano knew when to make the difficult decisions, and was typically decisive in doing so (even if that meant throwing someone off of a boat).
- Eric Mabius as Daniel Meade (Ugly Betty) The show is all about the realities of life, both good and bad. The respectful partnership that Meade has developed with his employee (Betty) plays off as realistically charming.
- Alec Baldwin as Jack Donaghy (30 Rock) Donaghy is a pure businessman…with a heart of gold. He mixes his brashness and hilariously un-ending confidence with a soft, if unwelcome, concern for his employee’s personal lives.
