Cleveland, Ohio (January 2008) – The only thing better than sharing the cards from the first year of the Ebony Inspirations collection was wondering who would be featured next. The wait is officially over.

Featuring iconic covers from the 62-year history of EBONY, the cards resonated with consumers who wanted a way to remember the important history of their culture, while also sharing messages of strength and hope. To help expand on the initial popularity of the line, American Greetings will feature seven new covers of historic figures and events that have helped to shape the African American culture.

This year, fresh covers and stories will be shared as part of a 12 card-line. Iconic covers in the new collection commemorate former Secretary of State Colin Powell, actor/comedian Redd Foxx, civil and human rights activist Dr. Betty Shabazz, tennis legend Arthur Ashe, entertainers Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, boxing champ Joe Lewis and the historic cover celebrating the importance of the 1963 March on Washington.

The new cards reflect the overall history of the culture, but they also tell great singular tales that will surely inspire any recipient. Going through the rich collection of cover art recalled important times for the African American culture and the culture.

“It really was an amazing experience to look back at so much history,” said Paul Palmer, Director of Ethnic Card Marketing for American Greetings. “As someone who grew up reading the publication from cover-to-cover it was an amazing trip down memory lane. Looking through these pages again really made me pause and remember what these people did and how important they truly are.”

As with the first year of Ebony Inspirations, each card has a brief bio on the back that will help recipients learn a little bit more about these important figures and events. “The lessons that can be learned and the inspiration that can be taken from these stories is exactly what the observance of Black History Month is all about,” said Palmer. “Looking over the cards and reading the bios really fills you with a sense of pride to be part of something that is larger than yourself. It is very humbling to realize that you are carrying on a tradition of those who were beacons of hope and perseverance, and catalysts of change not only for African Americans but for all people.”

The new collection of Ebony Inspirations from American Greetings can be found at participating drug chains, grocery stores and super centers nationwide, as well as in American Greetings and Carlton Cards retail stores. Visit www.americangreetings.com/retailers for store locations.
