The thing you have to understand about Pat Sandy is that he would hate the title, “Humor Expert.” In fact, when we explained that we thought it was the perfect way to reflect his vast knowledge of all things funny…well, he made fun of us.

Pat is one of the most experienced (and funniest) artists and writers at American Greetings. For more than 25 years this connoisseur of comedy has worked to deliver cards that not only have a great punch line, but also make you think of someone who would also love the joke.

“The one thing we always say is that every great punch line does not make for a funny greeting card,” said Pat. “We really work to understand what every consumer is trying to convey with the card they are sending, and to do that we find inspiration from everywhere you could imagine.”

From dissecting stand-up routines and YouTube videos to taking hints from his own life and even speaking with humor academics (it’s true…we didn’t believe him at first either), Pat truly is part comedian and part psychologist (though he would never admit the psychologist part).

Pat is the perfect resource for any discussion on humor. He can discuss the intricacies of how and why we laugh at certain things, why age, gender and even news watching habits affect what we find funny and he can chat about the role that humor plays in our lives.
